Kendal at Lexington Announces Opening of an On-site Rockbridge Area Health Center Medical Office

The Rockbridge Area Health Center will open a satellite office for use by the public and brings on-site primary care to senior living residents.

Lexington, Va. – July 15, 2022 – Kendal at Lexington and the Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) announced today a partnership that will allow RAHC to expand services on Kendal at Lexington’s Life Plan Community campus. RAHC will see patients four days per week by appointment at the new Kendal location. RAHC provides full service medical care for all ages, including wellness, acute care, and care for chronic medical conditions. Office visits will start in mid-July. Residents and staff of Kendal at Lexington, as well as patients from the surrounding area, are welcome to establish a relationship with RAHC at this new location.

“This innovative and unique partnership is a value-added service for residents of Kendal at Lexington who live in residential independent living cottages and apartments and in the Webster Assisted Living Center, as well as our staff,” said Jan Bigelow, CEO of Kendal at Lexington. “This new location, conveniently located at Kendal at Lexington, will allow for on-site healthcare services to residents and staff who choose to make RAHC their provider. We also look forward to welcoming all RAHC patients from the broader community.”

The Rockbridge Area Health Center satellite medical office will be in an on-campus clinic space completed in 2020 as part of Kendal at Lexington’s Phase 3 expansion and renovation. The space offers two exam rooms and a waiting area located through an entrance off the Anderson Center parking lot. Kendal at Lexington will also continue to offer another on-site clinic to assist residents living in residential apartments and cottages with routine medical assistance needs, such as allergy shots and blood pressure checks.

“We are so excited to launch this new satellite office at Kendal at Lexington. As needs in our community continue to evolve, we are thankful for the wonderful partnerships we develop. These creative solutions make a big impact on positive health outcomes in the community,” said Suzanne Sheridan, CEO of the Rockbridge Area Health Center. “We are excited to have the opportunity to serve the residents and staff of Kendal at Lexington at their convenience.”

“As a destination retirement community, with approximately 50% of residents moving to the community from outside the region, many incoming residents need to connect with a new local primary care physician,” added Jan. “This new medical office will make it simple to establish a new physician all within our 85 acres.”

The Rockbridge Area Health Center began in 1992 as a clinic serving patients that did not have adequate health insurance.  In 2014, RAHC was awarded a federal grant to expand, and they are already outgrowing 30,000 square feet of space on Northridge Lane off Route 11 in Lexington.

Practicing physicians at the new RAHC location include:

  • Dr. Mike Henry – Medical Director
  • Dr. Roger Clevinger – primary care for adults
  • Dr. Raeanna Simcoe – primary care for children and adults
