Moving to a community such as Kendal at Lexington checks off a lot of boxes: maintenance-free living, a continuing care model, and a vibrant community of residents eager to welcome you. And to sweeten the appeal, a newly renovated dining room and a fully equipped fitness center are just part of what makes life that much richer at Kendal.

In the midst of current precautionary restrictions, in-person tours are on a limited basis, so in true overcoming-COVID-creativity, Kendal at Lexington did the next best thing by hosting a virtual tour of the dining room and fitness amenities during their recent resident panel Zoom gathering and tour. Fitness Center

While the Kendal at Lexington campus features outdoor walking trails and scenic views, the fitness center is a popular destination. Whether you want to stretch or build strength, the fully equipped fitness center gym, group exercise classroom and pool offers residents access to wonderful spaces with talented instructors.

One feature is the Keiser exercise machines, designed to use pneumatic resistance, which eliminates the need for noisy weight plates and cumbersome adjustments. The regulars at the fitness center love that they can adjust their workout at the touch of a button.

The center is staffed by trained professionals who can help with individualized workouts and make recommendations depending on your fitness goals. They also lead the classes in everything from chair and mat yoga to strength and tone.

As resident Anita mentioned in the Zoom tour, “This is a marvelous opportunity to make sure that we maintain that body structure so that we’re healthy and we can move well.”

Indoor Pool

You can follow your workout with a dip in the 25 by 50-foot indoor pool. During current precautions, it is by appointment only, but was open 24 hours a day prior to COVID. The partial saltwater and chlorinated pool also has a dedicated swim lane available.

Dining

Of course, with all that working out, you’ll probably get hungry. Which is great because Kendal at Lexington has a reputation for fabulous food.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, residents have meals delivered directly to their door. While it has been appreciated by all, it’s no secret that they are eager to gather again in either the newly renovated dining room, the café, or the restaurant.

Construction in the recently renovated main dining room is completed but hasn’t been open to residents yet. Designed with a double line buffet, dining staff predict it will only be a staff served, single line when they open, in order to comply with health recommendations. It offers a full-scale breakfast, lunch, and dinner with Sunday brunch and made to order items at the grill.  Click here for a 3D virtual tour.

The Restaurants & Café

The Restaurant offers dinner from an extensive restaurant style dinner menu, all cooked to order. Once reopened, diners can make reservations for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.

John, a resident who participated int eh Zoom panel, especially appreciates the special meals and creativity of the chef though he tends to always order the filet mignon.

Finally, we predict the Café will become a favorite gathering place for a cup of coffee and just another area where residents gather for conversation, cards, or small meetings.

Options and Resident Choice

The dining staff ensures that there are options available for those with dietary modifications, such as gluten-free items or food allergies, but beyond that they joke, “the residents are fully in charge of the menu.” Whether it’s comforting meatloaf, or a gyro, resident Zoom panel contributor Diane says it’s all great food.

In typical times, residents would enjoy all the options with a flexible points system that can be used between all the dining facilities. Some residents invite friends or host family. It seems the guests are quite willing to help them “spend” their points and enjoy their dining experience.

Outdoor spaces
With a new veranda and patio space, residents have been able to enjoy the weather while socially distancing with friends.

During the warm moths, the outdoor patio along the swimming pool is now outdoor fitness class space for everything from yoga to western swing and line dancing. The mild temperatures and nearby shade trees help extend the season a bit longer so residents can keep active.

A virtual tour around the Kendal at Lexington campus is just one way to get a feel for the type of community living you can expect. In-person tours are available (with some limitations).
