Ask any resident and you’ll get a similar answer, life is good at Kendal at Lexington. While no two people are alike, they all share their affinity for the community, camaraderie, and connection this active campus affords.

Whether it’s Kay and her dog Missy enjoying a walk around the campus, or Susie, an avid birdwatcher who checks on the Bluebird boxes nearby – the outdoors is one of the many enjoyable features of living at Kendal at Lexington. With 84 acres of rolling Blue Ridge Mountain countryside, there’s plenty to attract birders, gardeners, and dog walkers.

Others like Bill who chose Kendal for the full-service gym so he could be active, but then found the bonus of many like-minded friends. Don also shares that staying active is part of the attraction, with many social activities, classes, and his favorite musical options, such as a singing group.

Then there’s the artists and creative residents, everything from quilters to painters who are active both within the Kendal campus and the surrounding Lexington arts scene.

Some other residents enjoy volunteer activities outside the campus at areas such Hospice, local food pantries, or Boxerwood Gardens.

Sarah’s day often includes working at the library and enjoying concerts, while residents such as George and Melou make the most of the nearby golf courses.

Friendships and lasting connections

Something many residents recommend is making the most of mealtimes to circulate and expand their circle of friends. Many say the key to making a lot of connections is to share meals with different people, rather than have a set dining companion or couple all the time.

Don especially likes the interaction and continuous connection between the independent living area and the assisted living residents, which was another reason he moved to Kendal.

Kendal residents do their part in keeping in touch. One way is the resident newsletter, compiled by the residents for the residents, providing a closer look at day to day life.
