October 9, 2026 —Earlier this year, Kendal celebrated the launch of a systemwide brand evolution with a series of fun, engaging activities showcasing what makes every Kendal Affiliate unique while celebrating the shared connection across the Kendal System.
One of the activities was the Spirit Week Single-Line Drawing Art Contest, which invited residents and team members to put their creativity on display. At Kendal at Lexington, Allison Propps’ entry was named the winning drawing.
When Allison entered the contest, she set out to capture more than a single scene. She wanted her artwork to reflect the people, places and experiences that make Kendal at Lexington feel like home.
Her winning drawing, “Unremitting KaLex Love,” brings together elements of the Kendal at Lexington community and surrounding Rockbridge County in one continuous line. The cottages represent home, while the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains and House Mountain ground the drawing in a place Allison has known all her life. From there, the line winds down Kendal Drive, a familiar path traveled each day by residents and team members.
The drawing ends in a heart, representing the warmth and connection Allison believes brings the community to life.
That sense of connection is personal for Allison. A Natural Bridge native, she joined Kendal at Lexington in 2023 after her husband, Remington, encouraged her to become part of the team. She began as a dishwasher and soon discovered a passion for working in the kitchen. Today, Allison works in dining as a prep cook and baker, known by many residents for her baked goods, including her popular cowboy cookies.
Remington has built his own path at Kendal at Lexington. After working in dining, he now serves in life enrichment, where he enjoys spending time with residents and creating opportunities for them to stay engaged, connected and involved in the community.
For Allison, the heart at the end of her single-line drawing represents the care residents and team members bring to the community. Whether someone is returning home, beginning a workday, spending time with neighbors or supporting the community behind the scenes, she sees the community as a place shaped by meaningful relationships, shared purpose and real kindness toward one another.
