Embracing the spirit of the global Olympics, residents and staff at Kendal at Lexington recently organized their own version of the games on their campus. The week-long event featured a range of sports, fostering community spirit and healthy competition.
The festivities began with a lively opening ceremony. Participants paraded around the campus in their finest USA attire, carrying an Olympic torch and setting the tone for the week ahead.
Throughout the event, residents and staff competed in various sports, including swimming relays, wiffle ball, corn hole, chair volleyball, and ping pong. Each participant aimed for the gold, bringing enthusiasm and energy to every event.
The swimming relays in Kendal’s indoor pool were particularly memorable. In a fun twist, competitors swam in oversized wet T-shirts, passing the shirt to their teammate at the end of the lane, who then swam back. This added challenge highlighted teamwork and brought many laughs.
Wiffle ball games saw residents and staff sporting matching headbands, adding to the competitive and festive atmosphere. The friendly rivalry and shared experience strengthened bonds within the community.
The event was expertly organized by Kendal’s full-time fitness instructors, Victoria Foreman and Kristen Youngman. Their planning and dedication ensured the smooth running of the games and the enjoyment of all participants.
“At Kendal, we believe every age is the right age to stay active,” said Foreman. “What better way to celebrate the Olympics than by getting into the spirit of the games right here on our beautiful 84 acres?”
Adding a special touch to the event, Kendal resident Helen Pearson shared her own Olympic experience, as she watched her grandson, Morgan Pearson, compete in the Paris Olympics. Morgan took home the silver medal in the triathlon mixed relay event, adding to the sense of Olympic pride within the Kendal community.
The Kendal Olympics offered residents a chance to stay active, connect with others, and create lasting memories. The event was a testament to the vibrant community life at Kendal at Lexington, underscoring the value of activity and camaraderie at every age.
