Dr. Alfonso D. Brochero, the Medical Director for Kendal’s Borden Health Center, Acknowledged as a Certified Medical Director

Kendal at Lexington would like congratulate and acknowledge Dr. Alfonso D. Brochero, the Medical Director for Kendal’s Borden Health Center, for becoming a Certified Medical Director (CMD) through the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (AMDCP), an independent not-for-profit organization. Dr. Brochero has been Kendal’s Medical Director since 2012 and is one of approximately 3,500 physician medical directors that have received the CMD designation.

A study from the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association found that “the presence of a certified medical director in a facility makes an appreciable positive difference in the quality of care provided in that facility”. The research indicated that there was a 15% improvement in quality for facilities with certified medical directors. (July, 2009).

Dr. Brochero studied medicine at Rosario University and Libre University in Colombia, going on to earn his United States Medical Licensure in 2006.
As the Medical Director for Kendal at Lexington, he oversees the clinical care provided to residents while creating and implementing policies and guidelines for resident care. He serves the role of attending physician conducting admissions, follow up and discharge of skilled rehab and long term geriatric residents. Dr. Brochero also works as a Hospitalist for the VAMC.

Through the combination of his clinical practice experience and continuing education, he’s been able to achieve this certification, further enhancing his skills and knowledge of long term care. ” states Charlotte Sibold, Kendal’s Health Services Administrator.

Dr. Brochero was a candidate for this certification after three years as a medical director, obtaining board certification as an internist and required education in geriatrics.

About Kendal at Lexington’s Benjamin Borden Center: The Borden Center opened in 2002 and is the only not-for-profit nursing center in the Lexington/Rockbridge area. With the capacity to serve 60 individuals, the center provides a coordinated health services program and person-centered approach to care for older adults.
