Kendal at Lexington is now offering a Professional Growth Opportunity for Aspiring Certified Nursing Assistants.

Kendal at Lexington announces an initiative to hire and educate potential certified nursing assistants. Effective February 1, 2019, Kendal at Lexington will open an application window to hire individuals as nursing assistants to train and educate for the permanent full-time position of Certified Nursing Assistant.  Our plan is to hire ten (10) individuals who will be sent to CNA certification training at Dabney Lancaster Community College (DSLCC) for formal education and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

To be considered for this opportunity, each applicant must complete the Kendal application form and a statement outlining their interest in being selected for this program.  Each applicant must also submit two references utilizing the Kendal reference form. These should be two professional references who have a direct knowledge of their desire/competencies to perform in the position of Certified Nursing Assistant.

After review of all applications by the selection committee, applicants who have been chosen to move forward will be called for an interview with the committee.  Those applicants who have a successful interview will be subjected to a Background Investigation through the Virginia State Police.

Applicants who successfully complete this process will be hired by Kendal at Lexington as nursing assistants into a part time position (not to exceed 24 hours per week).  This position will provide the selectee with the opportunity to work in a skilled nursing center or assisted living and learn about the procedures and processes and to determine if this is the career that they want to pursue.  Applicants must be available to enter this position and be available to the shift assigned on or about March 1, 2019. Applicants will be assigned a mentor upon hire.

If successful during this initial period of employment, on or about April 1, 2019, selectees will enter a formal training program with DSLCC at their campus in Rockbridge County. Selectees will be required to apply on line with DSLCC and must meet the published criteria necessary for enrollment in DSLCC.  Selectees will be required to complete all requirements as deemed necessary by the College. For example, participants will be drug tested by DSLCC and will be required to get a series of shots to include the Hepatitis B series.

This CNA training program will run for approximately seven weeks, with two sessions per week of approximately six hours per session. The program also includes a clinical session which is five eight-hour days.  Clinicals for this training program will be held at Kendal at Lexington in the Borden Health Center.  Participants will also participate in one full day (8 hours) of basic life support training and one full day (8 hours) of classroom exam preparation.   Any participant who misses more than two sessions will be dismissed from the program. Upon successful completion of this program, participating individuals will receive certification and will be eligible to test for a CNA license with the State of Virginia.  Full funding for this training program will be provided by Kendal at Lexington.  Registration for individual testing with the Virginia Board of Nursing will be conducted by Kendal at Lexington in conjunction with the individual program participant.  Selectees may continue to work on a part time basis with Kendal at Lexington while attending DSLCC should there be a need to do so.

Upon completion of the Dabney Lancaster formal training program, selectees will return to Kendal at Lexington to work as part time nursing assistants while waiting to take and pass their final exam.  Upon successful completion of the exam, selectees will be advanced to the position of Certified Nursing Assistant and placed in a permanent position at Kendal at Lexington.

All selectees will be required to enter into a formal agreement with Kendal at Lexington demonstrating their commitment and dedication to completing this program; to their commitment to being compliant with all regulations governing employment at Kendal at Lexington; and to their commitment for continued employment with Kendal at Lexington after successful completion of this program.
