The Kendal at Lexington lifestyle is truly unique…

Kendal at Lexington is a closely-knit community of approximately 160 independent living residents and approximately 80 residents in Assisted Living and the Health Center. Residents are much more than just another face in the crowd. People know and care about each other. Residents watch out for one another and strong relationships are formed.

KaLex is a resident-driven retirement community. Independent living residents work in committees to plan and implement everything from the monthly activity calendar to the placement of art throughout the common areas. Kendal at Lexington residents sit on the Board of Directors as well as Board designated committees such as Finance and Strategic Planning.

Residents are not only actively involved within the Kendal community; they also play an integral role within the greater Lexington community. KaLex residents serve on not-for-profit boards, participate in service organizations and often volunteer their time.

Lifelong Learning

Lexington, Virginia offers many opportunities for art, cultural and educational experiences. As home to two colleges, Lexington offers a blend of sophistication and small-town charm. Washington and Lee University allows Kendal at Lexington residents to audit college classes (permission must be obtained from the professor). The W&L Library is also available for resident use. The Lenfest Center for the Arts offers a full schedule of concerts, plays and student performances. Virginia Military Institute offers access to lectures and programs by internationally known speakers as well as student performances.
Residents have even developed their own Kendal College program. These multidisciplinary courses are resident-driven and fascinating. Some classes are lecture-style while others are hands-on. Most take place on the Kendal campus but some include off-site adventures. The topics are broad and varied and the speakers are usually experts in their fields. Washington and Lee University and VMI professors frequently volunteer their time to conduct Kendal College classes.
