Community Life at Kendal is Planned by Residents
Kendal residents bring their many talents, interests and life experiences to bear as they plan and organize a wide variety of programs, events and activities. Below is a schedule for the current month. KENDAL COLLEGE offers a series on Islam this month, taught by W & L faculty member Peter Hatcher.

JUNE
There remains uncertainty about Sunday Vespers services and the Tuesday "conversation" hour, because of Phase II construction. Check bulletin
boards for announcements on when and where the regular activities will be held again.
Thursday, June 5, the Southern Virginia theater group will present Frank Loesser's Guys and Dolls. Program is in Chandler Hall on the Southern Virginia Campus. Guys and Dolls is a rollicking 1950 Broadway musical about a New York gambler and a Salvation Army lassie. Tickets are $5.00 apiece for seniors. Chandler Hall is not handicap accessible. [Bus]
The "Mary Baldwin University Wits" will present Shakespeare's The Tempest on Friday, June 13 at 7:30 pm at Lime Kiln. Those interested in attending should call the box office (463-7088) for tickets, which are $9.00 apiece for senior citizens. [Bus]
On Wednesday, June 25, the annual summer staff appreciation party will be held in the courtyard at 2:30 pm. Everyone is invited.
Independent residents may wish to join Webster Center residents for a picnic at Lake Robertson on Friday, June 27, leaving at 10:45 am. "Fixings" for sandwiches will be provided at a cost of $4.00.
JULY
On the Glorious Fourth, the Kendal bus will take interested residents to the VMI Parade Ground, leaving at 7:00 pm, to view fireworks and hot air balloons and enjoy holiday food. Kendal chairs will be provided. (Borden and Webster residents will leave earlier.)
A free Civil War era band concert will be offered on Sun. evening, July 6 at 8:00 pm in Lee Chapel, provided by the Rome, Ga. Regimental Band using vintage instruments. The band recently gave a performance at Gettysburg. There is no charge. [bus]
The Princeton Chamber music group will offer a concert in Wilson Hall on Fri., July 11, at 7:30 pm. This group offers a week of instruction and practice to area adult musicians, culminating in the public concert on Fri. evening. There is no charge. [bus]
On Sun., July 13, interested residents will want to take the bus to a concert at Garth Newel, which begins at 3:00 pm. The resident piano quartet will be playing Schubert and Vasks. Cost for the concert is $20 ($17 if 10 or more sign up). [bus]
Other residents may want to visit the Rockbridge Fair, also on Sun., July 13, at the Virginia Horse Center, leaving at 1:30 pm. [bus]
There will be a second opportunity to attend a Garth Newel concert, on Sun., July 20. A piano trio, plus a cellist and flutist, will be playing Bach and Debussy. Cost for the concert is $20 ($17 if 10 or more sign up). The bus will leave at 1:15 pm.
On Wed., July 23, the Kendal bus will take residents to visit the Buckley Moss Museum in Waynesboro, visit a shopping mall, and enjoy a Dutch treat lunch at the South River Inn. There is no charge for the 45-minute tour of the museum. [bus]
Sun., July 27 is Kendal night at Lime Kiln, when the popular singing group of Linda and Robin Williams will be offering a concert, beginning at 7:30 pm. Call Lime Kiln box office (463-7088) for senior senior citizen tickets, costing $22 apiece. [bus]
The fourth annual Garth Newel student concert will be held in the dining room at Kendal, on Wed., July 30, at 7:30 pm. Two string ensembles will play Mozart, Mendelssohn, Prokofiev, and Dvorak.
